To achieve this, it’s necessary for DP&L to request a distribution rate review to continue supporting infrastructure improvements. This is DP&L’s first distribution rate review in nearly three decades.

DP&L will remain a low-cost utility, continuing to offer the lowest residential rates in the state.

What is it?

Distribution rates cover the cost of delivering electricity to your home and business. Distribution rates pay for things such as the cost of installing and maintaining the electric lines that run through our neighborhoods, reading electric meters, processing bills and taking customer service calls.

 

Unlike most businesses, DP&L cannot change its prices overnight. As a regulated utility, DP&L must submit a detailed proposal to change its rates. The request includes evidence to support an increase to the distribution rates and demonstrates how our investments benefit customers. This process is called a rate case, and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) must approve any changes.

 

DP&L has requested a base distribution rate increase from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) to cover operational costs and enhanced customer service for maintaining safe and reliable service.

 

The impact on individual customer bills is determined by their usage. For example, at the time the application was filed, DP&L estimated the total monthly bill for a typical residential customer who uses 1,000 kWh would increase by $4 per month. We offer tips and programs to help customers offset this increase.

 

The proposal must go through a thorough review process with the PUCO.
